Who are SandSI?
SandSI outlines its plans for 2021
Sport and Sustainability International (SandSI) is a not-for-profit association based in Geneva, Switzerland, that aspires to accelerate sustainability in and through sport.
SandSI seeks to harness the reach and influence of sport to address the existential challenges of protecting the health of our world and the billions of people who depend on it. SandSI’s existence is deeply rooted in the belief that sport, as a world-wide inspiration for healthy practices and the overcoming of difficult obstacles, should strive to lead resiliently against these global challenges.
Sport and Sustainability International envisions a sport sector that addresses its global impact and leverages the influence of sport to promote healthy, sustainable and equal communities. Thus, SandSI’s mission is to accelerate sustainability in and through sport. To fulfill our mission, the global membership organisation defines three priorities:
● “Combat climate change by supporting the implementation of the UNFCCC Sportfor Climate Action Framework principles.”
● “Promote and enhance sustainable practices in and through sport by offering a platform that captures, shares and accelerates the contribution of sport to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.”
● “Foster healthy communities by encouraging diversity and inclusion, equal opportunities and a healthy and active lifestyle within society.”
These 2021 priorities form part of our long term goals, namely:
● CLIMATE: The sport sector to become carbon neutral by 2030.
● WASTE: The sport sector to become zero waste by 2030.
● HEALTH: The sector to contribute to 15% reduction on physical inactivity by 2030.
SandSI utilises a network of member organisations and experts with extensive knowledge and experience, both at global and regional levels to upgrade sport from an enabler to a catalyst of sustainable development.
