How are SandSI setting out to achieve their objectives?
SandSI discusses how they will meet their 2021 objectives
SandSI has a mission of accelerating Sustainability in and through Sport, aligning its activities and objectives with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). We seek to connect, educate and inspire organisations and individuals to change their mindset, explore innovative solutions and adopt more sustainable practices.
With the support of our 235 members representing 40+ nations across all continents, we have been able to focus our efforts on the following initiatives to contribute to a more sustainable future:
● SandSI focuses on education and continually seeks to increase expertise, knowledge and resources within the sport sector. We are taking effective action against the sport industry’s negative impact on the planet and are helping to change industry practices by advancing and promoting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
● SandSI creates value by connecting sport organisations, event organisers, corporates, researchers and field experts. We promote strategic collaboration and facilitate networking opportunities between established organisations and experts, generating viable solutions that contribute to a more sustainable future.
● SandSI’s advocacy activities aim to increase the understanding of the scope and scale of sport’s impact, which provides the sector with the opportunity (and responsibility) to influence its supply chains, allied stakeholders and fans.
Advocacy through a collective voice also demonstrates how to better provide credible stewardship for the environment and society.
These initiatives have allowed SandSI and its stakeholders to be enablers in making sport more sustainable. Additionally, SandSI has hosted multiple webinars and launched two programmes: The Football4Climate action and the SDG Sport Lab.
Football4Climate is a multi-year ambassador programme with professional football players from Juventus, Paris Saint-Germaine and Sampdoria as supporters. Football4Climate leverages the cultural and market influence of football to promote climate action, specifically focusing on reducing carbon footprint, eliminating single-use plastic at professional football matches in Europe and encouraging top European football clubs to become signatories of the UN sports for Climate Action Framework.
The SDG Sport Lab is a creative platform that uses sport as a common language to encourage, share and foster the implementation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. The Lab helps discover groundbreaking practices toward sustainability in the strategy, operations and communications of sport entities. Additionally, it also provides a platform to drive impactful innovation as well as meaningful and collective action.
